As part of this year’s Lismore Pride Month celebrations, we are lifting the lid on mental wellbeing by opening
the door for a safe and supported conversation around suicide as we want to recognise those who have
considered ending their own lives, those who have attempted to do so, those of you who support loved ones
through suicidal crisis, and those of you bereaved through suicide.
Research shows that LGBTQIA+ communities experience higher levels of mental ill-health,
suicide and self-harm, compared with the general population. Within the LGBTQIA+ communities,
trans and gender diverse participants experience greater risk of suicidal thoughts
and behaviours, compared with cis-gendered.
